Koc University Scholars are giving back to the community through several initiatives

Updated: May 16, 2022

Skill Building

Mohammed Alsaqqa is teaching young children about robotics and instilling in them a love of learning and exploring.

Mohammed says: “Young children have a lot of energy, which is contagious. I love robotics, and it was always my dream to build robots. It makes me very happy that I am introducing little kids to my hobby. I love seeing how engaged they are, and how I am helping them achieve their potential.”

Pioneering

Shadi Hamdan In his senior project, Shadi, with his teammates, made a crucial but expensive and time-consuming blood diagnosis tool that is much more convenient and efficient for use in remote and mobile locations like ambulances or remote villages. Shadi says: “A lot of scientific innovation, unfortunately, remains confined in the lab due to excessive cost which makes it unfeasible for mass use. With a lot of hard work and extensive optimization, I am very glad that I and my team were able to make this innovation much more accessible to everyone.”

Community Impact

Nazir Nayal Our Alumni, who is still at Koc University, has been giving back to the community by mentoring undergraduate students and guiding them through their graduate school applications. Nazir says: “Mentorship is essential, and I am very thankful for all the support I have received when I was applying for graduate school. I am committed to giving other students in a similar spot the same opportunities I was offered, and I encourage others to do the same.”

Fun & Inspiration

Sarieh Srdar As part of a software engineering project, Sarieh, along with his team, designed and developed an action-packed and fun “shoot ‘em up” game that simulates a defense against an alien attack on earth. The game was well-received and was awarded the best project award for the semester. Sarieh says “I learned a lot during this project. At the beginning, I was very excited to design the game, but it was a bit daunting. Under the supervision of our advisor, we were able to methodically split the whole project into many smaller, manageable parts, which gave us a sense of direction and made the whole task much easier. It was great seeing the game being slowly built up. I am looking forward to applying the skills I have learned to future projects.”
